PPC M1 vs M1-X vs M1-L: Which Performance Wing Should You Buy?

The M1 family is PPC Foiling's performance line, and because three wings share the name we get this question weekly: which M1 is the right one? The short version is that they share DNA but solve three different problems.

What they share

All three are built around PPC's signature stiff frame concept and the tight, snappy canopy the brand is known for. All three come with PPC's carbon handle setups, and all run the same size logic across their ranges. On the water they feel like family: direct, efficient, quick to accelerate.

M1: the original, no compromises

The M1 uses Dyneema cuben fibre for the whole frame, a rigidity standard borrowed from racing sailboats, with small tube diameters and high pressure (12 PSI), plus a non-stretch waxed MK canopy from Americas Cup sail technology. It is the most locked-in, most powerful feel of the three. Choose it if you ride hard in a wide range of conditions and want the reference wing. Sizes 3.0 to 6.5.

M1-X: lighter canopy, wave and freestyle focus

The M1-X answers one specific piece of feedback: riders who loved the M1 but found it a touch heavy or grunty for wave riding. The lighter canopy material drops overall weight and adds forgiveness, while the Dyneema frame stays stiff. The payoff is in the surf: the M1-X flags out and parks exactly where you put it. It also carries the full carbon ergo boom handles. Choose it for waves, freestyle and anyone prioritising light handling. Sizes 3.0 to 7.0.

M1-L: the smart money

The M1-L is the clever one. Dyneema is used exactly where the load lives, through the centre of the leading edge, and Dacron builds the rest of the frame. That cuts the price substantially while keeping the crisp canopy and the carbon ergo handles. The feel is slightly softer than the M1-X, which is exactly why it is also the best choice of the three for riders newer to wing foiling. Choose it for maximum performance per euro. Sizes 3.0 to 7.0.

Decision table
