Jimmy Lewis SUP and Surf Range Explained: Sidewinder, Destroyer, World Wide
Jimmy Lewis has been shaping on Maui for decades, and the SUP and surf range shows it: every board has a clear personality. Here is what each one is actually for.
Sidewinder: the versatile all-water race board
The Sidewinder starts with a zero drag outline and a very low, smooth rocker line, so it gets moving easily and holds its speed with little effort. Increased volume up front keeps the nose floating over chop, the V deck separates water when piercing waves, and the wing shaped rails up front keep the nose steady in cross wind. It comes as 12'6" (245L and 265L) and 14'0" (270L to 300L). If you race, tour fast or paddle open water, this is the board.
Destroyer: the short longboard
The original Destroyer surfboard is what Jimmy calls a mini tanker: catches waves like a longboard, performs like a shortboard, and has earned the nickname Maui's favourite board. Flat bottom through the front, V near the fins, fast and responsive. Sizes from 6'0" to 8'0", thruster set included. Great for beginners and advanced surfers alike.
Destroyer MP: the SUP crossover
The Destroyer MP was inspired by Mike Perry, who wanted a cross between the Striker stand up board and the Destroyer surfboard. Two prototypes later, this was the result: a surf SUP from 7'7" and 100L up to 9'8" and 160L, with an 8 inch centre fin and 4 inch sides. The people's choice for surfing a SUP without fuss.
Destroyer HP: the performance longboard SUP
The Destroyer HP takes the widely popular MP and gives it a competitive edge: longer, more narrow, and slimmed down substantially, designed to meet the requirements of the Australian Longboard SUP Division. Thruster and quad set-ups, three sizes from 9'0" and 120L to 10'0" and 145L. For riders who surf their SUP hard.
World Wide: high performance surf SUP
The World Wide delivers maximum performance in the surf while staying forgiving, thanks to added width and volume. The fast, flat nose entry feeds into a single concave for lift and speed, flowing into a double concave through the fin area for drive through turns. The swallow tail keeps it responsive. Five fin boxes with the JL 5 fin set included, sizes from 103L to 155L.
